“Loving each other with no hatred in our mind and having a dream to chase.”

- Samuel Seo

Samuel Seo recently released his mini-album “UNITY”. Part of his album promotion, he had a surprise fan meeting for his London fans while he was here for London Fashion Week to attend Burberry’s show. For all of you that wish to know more about the ‘genius musician’ and fashion influencer that Samuel Seo is, Zutter asked him to spare a bit of his time and answer some questions about his album, his inspiration, fashion and more.

Zutter: Congratulations for releasing your new album! It has been two years since your last one, how do you feel now that you just released ‘UNITY’?

Samuel Seo: Thank you so much for the support. Feels good to release this first mini-album. This one’s been done while I was working on my third one, which will be dropped on 2019.

Z: From where did you get your inspiration for the album or is this a new page out of Samuel Seo’s diary?

SS: Every one of my songs are made out of how I’ve been living, so yes, they are parts of my diary that’s not written on papers, just in my head.

Z: You previously wrote ‘Kafka’ after getting inspired by Franz Kafka’s ‘The Metamorphosis’. What other books are in your bookcase? Which other authors have left a strong impression on you?

SS: I don’t write a song unless something’s strongly connected to my life, and ‘The Metamorphosis’ somehow made me think of the people I used to hang out with, which made me write one, but nothing I’ve read before or since then encouraged me to. But I do love some classic horror Novels written by Stephen King. The best one’s “IT”.

Z: Going back to your new album, which song from ‘UNITY’ did you keep on perfecting and took the longest to finish?

None. Come to think of it, I didn’t have to at all. I used to work on songs until I think it’s more than enough and it is a fact that a song needs to be perfected before it’s release but should be stopped at a certain point where it gets boring because if I don’t feel the song anymore, no one will.

Z: As you are called a ‘genius musician’ due to your craftsmanship when writing and producing songs, which one of your songs from ‘UNITY’ do you consider to showcase your skills best?

SS: I play ‘Window’ a lot because I've been wanting to have my own 90s boom-bap styled song in my discography since when I was 18 and it took me another 8 years to create the sound that I'm satisfied, which is 'Window'. I love the song not just because of the sound but because of all the struggles I've been through to make that song. It feels like it's a part of me now.

Z: On the title track ‘Happy Avocado’ you talk about cooking food with avocados. Which are your favourite dishes with avocado? Also, heard that you have a passion for cooking. Could you share one of your secret recipes with avocado?

Avocado is a great ingredient for cooking because it melts down on almost everywhere it’s put into, and I especially love guacamole with chips on my dish. But when I get too lazy to make one, I prefer to dip it into soy sauce with boiled egg for easy meal.

Z: Previously in an interview for ‘IZM Neo Music Community’ you mentioned that you want people to be happy, but what would happiness be like for you?

SS: Loving each other with no hatred in our mind and having a dream to chase. I won’t elaborate.

Z: You visited London for Fashion Week. Your music is hard to categorise, but is your fashion style the same? How would you describe it?

SS: I am a person who doesn’t care about being categorized under certain frame. I follow what I think is right and fun. Intend to keep it this way.

Z: You do a bit of DIY with your clothes and previously collaborated with fashion brands LMC and Tonywack. What designers would you love to collaborate with in the future?

SS: I would love to collaborate with Kenny Scharf. Really admire his works.

Z: What else, apart from eating lots of avocado toast, should your fans do to live a happy life?

SS: Stay Healthy. Enjoy your own lives.
