Musquiqui Chihying: A Life of Navigation

Musquiqui Chihying: A Life of Navigation

A multimedia exhibition from the Taiwanese artist, serving up both humour and societal critique to explore themes of urban life and technological advancement.

The exhibition brings together four works by Musquiqui Chihying, showcasing his imaginative, idiosyncratic and quietly provocative practice.

A Life of Navigation begins with Chihying’s early, quirky attempts to navigate the impacts of our busy and often high-stress urban life.

Alongside these early works, The Jog (2014) and The Toyota (2015), sit two newly produced video installations. These latest works cast a playful yet critical eye on the development of artificial intelligence and gaming culture, alongside the rising tension between manual labour and automation.

All underpinned by a sense of humour and performativity, these new works explore Chihying’s recent interest in unpacking the rarely discussed modern-day colonial attitudes at the centre of our pursuit of technological advancement.

Musquiqui Chihying is a Taiwanese artist known for his humorous practice that navigates between reality and the surreal. Working across installation, video, photography and sculptural objects, and often incorporating performativity, Chihying explores the impacts of modern-day technologies on contemporary societal structures and the human condition.

Presented as part of the RC Foundation Project Space Exhibition Series, with support from the RC Foundation, Taiwan (R.O.C.). Additional support provided by the Ministry of Culture, Taiwan (R.O.C.)

The Unclassified

The Korean Cultural Centre UK (KCCUK) is delighted to present The Unclassified, a group exhibition of four leading contemporary Korean and Korean-heritage artists, Meekyoung Shin, Ayoung Kim, siren eun young jung, and Gala Porras-Kim, exploring how museums shape the way we understand, remember, and interpret culture. The exhibition interrogates the limits of the systems and assumptions through which museums produce cultural knowledge, with works that challenge what can be collected, classified and contained.

Unfolding across four key themes, The Unclassified explores the ways in which museums preserve, record, archive and make culture visible. In doing so, the exhibition offers alternative ways of thinking about culture and heritage, examining what museums can and choose to preserve, and what remains beyond their reach.

The exhibition is presented in collaboration with Lush and Somerset House Studios, with site partnerships from SOAS University of London, Delfina Foundation, the Glenfiddich Artist Residency, Soom Restaurant, Café Babka and Gaia Food & Drinks.

Participating Artists:

Korea Exhibition

Discover 2,000 years of Korean creativity – through works spanning from around 300 BC to the present day.

Featuring outstanding examples of sculpture, painting and decorative arts over two millennia – up to the present day – the exhibition presents the most comprehensive chronological survey of Korean visual and material culture seen in Europe for over 40 years.

This major exhibition draws almost exclusively from the 23,000 works bequeathed in 2021 by the late Samsung Chairman Lee Kun-Hee to the National Museum of Korea (NMK) and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA). It offers a dynamic journey through the art and material culture of the last 2,000 years. It also includes many National Treasures or Treasures, objects so designated for their exceptionally high quality and historical significance.

From ancient gold body ornaments and Buddhist icons to 12th- and 13th-century celadon-glazed stoneware, evocative ink landscapes and contemporary works responding to the turbulence of the 20th century, the objects on display tell a panoramic story of the history of Korea. Originally created for settings including royal tombs and palaces, Buddhist temples, scholars' studios, private homes and modern art spaces, most of the objects have never been seen in the UK before.

CHUN KWANG YOUNG: AGGREGATION | THE MEMORY OF PAPER AND TIME

Opening on Hangul Day, October 9, the Korean national holiday celebrating the creation of the Korean alphabet, Aggregation: The Memory of Paper & Time presents new and recent works by Chun Kwang Young (b. 1944, South Korea).

The exhibition marks a significant evolution in the artist’s decades-long exploration of memory, history, and time, with a new group of works created specifically for London incorporating Hangul, Korea’s modern writing system and a powerful symbol of Korean culture.

Chun Kwang Young is internationally recognized for his Aggregations, sculptural installations and wall reliefs comprising thousands of triangular forms wrapped in carefully folded and dyed pages of text printed on traditional Korean mulberry paper. Each form embodies fragments of distinct human experience thanks to the words that envelop them. Chun’s abstract compositions are at once organic and architectural, evoking landscapes that appear both ancient and otherworldly.

K-MUSIC FESTIVAL: CHUDAHYE CHAGIS

Driven by a striking voice, Chu Dahye returns with psychedelic shamanic funk.

Chu Dahye, the magnetic voice behind the electrifying RAVE that transformed the Southbank Centre into a pulsating club night, returns to London with a bold new sonic vision.

With her band CHUDAHYE CHAGIS, she presents a psychedelic shamanic funk rooted in traditional Korean chants (Muga), where voice becomes both instrument and storyteller. Their distinctive sound blends ancient Muga from the Pyeongan, Jeju, and Hwanghae Provinces with elements of reggae, jazz, hip-hop, funk, dance, and rock, creating a powerful and immersive sonic landscape.

This groundbreaking combination earned them widespread recognition, winning Best R&B/Soul Song at the Korean Music Awards in 2021 for Ritual Dance from their first album. Their second album SOSUMINJOK went on to win Album of the Year and Best R&B/Soul Song at the Korean Music Awards in 2026, making them a double winner.

Built around a tight interplay of vocals, guitar, bass, and drums, the music unfolds like a living ritual—shifting between hypnotic grooves, explosive energy, and moments of haunting stillness. It is not just a concert, but a shared experience that blurs the line between stage and audience, carrying an emotional intensity that is raw, theatrical, and deeply immersive.

BORAM KIM: GWANTONG 18

AN EXHILARATING DANCE SOLO. A BODY PUSHED TO ITS LIMIT.

Gwantong – to pierce, penetrate, or pass through
18 – the work’s eighteen-part choreographic structure

Raw, exhilarating and deeply personal, Gwantong 18 is a rare chance to encounter one of Korea’s most distinctive dance artists.

Acclaimed Korean choreographer and performer Boram Kim, founder of Ambiguous Dance Company, comes to The Coronet with his darkly funny and physically demanding solo work, Gwantong 18, for its one and only international performance.

Rather than a narrative, Gwantong 18 invites audiences to experience dance as they might experience weather or nature: moment by moment, through rhythm, breath, movement and presence.

Structured in eighteen sections, the work moves through exhaustion, humour, repetition, memory and defiance, as Kim travels across a shifting landscape of objects from his life. What emerges is the expression of a simple but profound question: what does it mean to dedicate a life to performance?

Premiered in Seoul in 2018, he revisits the 70 minute solo that asks him to give everything. Requiring extraordinary stamina, emotional resilience, precision and vulnerability, Gwantong 18 is a piece Kim wants to perform again before his body says no.

Since their sold-out UK debut at The Coronet Theatre in 2022 with Body Concert, Ambiguous Dance Company has built a remarkable relationship with London audiences and critics, returning in 2023 with Rhythm of Human and in 2024 with the immersive, site-specific The Belt.

aespa World Tour (London)

K-pop girl group with a unique virtual concept

K-pop sensations aespa burst onto the global music scene in 2020 with their heady concoction of infectious pop hooks and a ground-breaking virtual concept. The genre-blending quartet – made up of Karina, Giselle, Winter, and Ningning – quickly became one of the industry's buzziest acts.

Formed by SM Entertainment – a leading force in K-pop – aespa made their highly anticipated debut in November 2020 with their chart-topping single, ‘Black Mamba’. The pulsating dance pop track introduced aespa as a force to be reckoned with in the competitive K-pop landscape.

But what truly set aespa apart from their K-pop peers is an innovative virtual world concept. Each member has an avatar or virtual counterpart (all sharing their real counterpart’s name but with ae- preceding it), further blurring the line between reality and fantasy. This concept has allowed the group to explore an expanding narrative across their releases, giving fans a multi-dimensional experience unlike any other.

In 2021, aespa returned with their highly anticipated follow-up single, ‘Next Level’. The track’s refined sound represented a step forward for the band both sonically and commercially, reaching No.2 on the K-pop charts. Aespa’s first mini-album Savage followed later that year and saw the group crack the Billboard Hot 200. That November, they became the first K-pop girl group to play the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The year 2022 marked several major milestones for aespa as they won Single Of The Year at the Korean Music Awards for ‘Next Level’ and Artist Of The Year at the Golden Disc Awards. The group announced their first ever world tour, including an appearance at Coachella. By May, they’d appeared on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 and Time’s Next Generation Leaders lists and performed for a UN council on sustainable development.

Featuring the tracks 'Supernova' and 'Licorice', the group's debut full-length album Armageddon was released in May 2024, topping Bilboard's US World Albums chart and cementing their status as an international phenomenon.

Ever prolific, after successive extended plays and single albums, in March 2026 aespa announced that their second studio album, Lemonade, would be released in May, alongside UK and Europe dates as part of the LIVE TOUR – SYNK : COMPLæXITY.

MICO - IN:BETWEEN Tour

As MICO’s creativity carried him from URL spaces to IRL stages, his work also grew increasingly personal. Viral bops like 2022’s “cut my hair” found him struggling with maintaining his identity amid romantic ruin, while 2024’s streaming hit “HOMESICK” sets the scene for the disconnect that fuels When the lights turn on. On new song “Like you mean it,” he pleads with a partner to face the facts of their uneven love: “You can’t call it healing, running from a feeling / I can’t be the only good thing that you’ve got / So love me like you mean it, not like you need it.” But on the next track, “Do it all again,” he’s the one chasing a connection that’s doomed to fail.

But sometimes the rift gets closed, as on “Your favorite flowers,” which embodies a sweetly teenaged suburban intimacy with its gentle acoustics and story of two best friends working out their feelings for each other amid major life shifts. “There was a brief moment where this friend and I started seeing each other, then everything fizzled out,” MICO says. “We hadn’t talked in a year, and then we reconnected. We didn't know where we stood anymore, but after having an intense conversation, it felt like at that moment, we had learned how to be true friends again.”

K-pop "performance kings" head to London's O2 Arena in 2027

ENHYPEN is a South Korean boy band formed by BELIFT LAB.

Consisting of six multi-national members in JUNGWON, JAY, JAKE, SUNGHOON, SUNOO, and NI-KI, ENHYPEN were the finalists of the global music competition show I-LAND which aired for three months starting from June 2020. They officially debuted on 30 November 2020 with the song 'Given-Taken'.

The group are renowned for their powerful and highly synchronised performances, dark fantasy/vampire concept, and cinematic storytelling through music and art direction. They have garnered international praise as the “4th generation hot icons” and “K-pop powerhouses", and “performance kings.”

Their fandom name is ENGENE, which is derived from the words “engine” and “gene.”  ENGENES are the engines that help them “keep going” and the genes that share the same DNA as the group to “connect, discover, and grow together.” Former member, HEESEUNG, left ENHYPEN on March 10 2026 and became a solo artist under the stage name Evan.

ENHYPEN announced a one-off UK concert in 2027, as part of their WORLD TOUR: BLOOD SAGA, at The O2 Arena in London.

Hyeyoon Park - BRUCH AND BEETHOVEN

Taking centre stage is internationally acclaimed violinist Hyeyoon Park, praised for her ‘exhilarating musicianship’ (The Times) and ‘huge palette of tone’ (The Guardian).

The programme opens with Anna Clyne’s Restless Oceans, driven by bold rhythms and percussive power, before moving into A Walk to Beethoven. As described by the composer, the work serves as an introduction to the symphony, inviting the listener on a musical stroll with glimpses of what is to come.

In this performance, the ensemble’s own voices will be woven into the piece through a specially created audio collage. Sharing their thoughts about the year ahead, it’s a portrait of a group brought together from across the world to create something new in London’s musical landscape and a celebration of the start of the new Fellowship year.

Boris – ‘PINK’ 20th Anniversary UK Tour

Boris formed in 1992 and eventually arrived at the band’s current lineup of Takeshi, Wata, and Atsuo in 1996. In the years since, Boris has tirelessly explored their own rendition of what is heavy through methods entirely their own. Though the depths of their “heaviness” may intensify, their unique musicianship defies classification in any one genre or style, so let’s just call it real “heavy music” in extreme color. Their music has been called a “game changer” regarding the leading edge of the world’s rock scene, and that influence is limitless. They enter realms that cannot be described simply in terms of the “explosive sound” or “thunderous roars” that have become their trademark.

Counterattack : Youth

Four high school friends reunite over drinks. What begins as light conversation soon turns to love, marriage, work, and the unspoken pressure of where they feel they should be in life.

Counterattack: Youth is a one-hour pub drama set entirely in a real pub, with the audience seated as fellow patrons at the next table. No stage. No distance. Just four women in their late twenties, a round of drinks, and every conversation they've been putting off.

It is a little bit of everything: a celebration, an argument, a prank, a toast, and even a reminiscence about school days. But most importantly, it is one very honest conversation about what it actually means to be young right now.

An Exploration of Korean Mythology

  • 3-5 Sutton Row London, England, W1D 4NR United Kingdom (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Meet Korea’s fox, ghost and princess to uncover how folklore carries women’s grief, resistance and transformation. Followed by Q&A.

Every culture has women who were wronged and refused to disappear. In Korean folklore, they return as foxes, ghosts and princesses, figures shaped by grief, injustice and a fierce determination to claim what society denied them.

Join Korean poet, scholar and educator Dr Melanie Hyo-In Han to meet three of the tradition’s most enduring female archetypes: the Gumiho, a seductive nine-tailed fox who can shapeshift into a woman; the Cheonyeo Gwishin, an unmarried maiden whose restless spirit exposes the constraints Confucian society placed on women; and Princess Bari, abandoned for being a girl before journeying to the underworld and returning as the Mother of Korean Shamanism.

Threading their stories together is han, a Korean feeling of unresolved grief and injustice that can settle in the body and outlast death. Through myth, gender and cultural history, discover how Korean women have carried, released and transformed han across generations, and what these stories reveal about women’s anger, ambition and resistance. Whether you’re new to Korean mythology or already fascinated by it, you’ll leave with a deeper understanding of these unforgettable figures, and perhaps new questions about the stories your own culture tells about women who refuse to conform.

Bloomsbury Festival - User Manual for a Broken Machine

A darkly comic performance exploring failure, burnout and the body under pressure reflecting Korean industrialisation, capitalism and diaspora.

Music composed and performed by Seayool.

A broken Daewoo vacuum cleaner. A user manual that no longer works. A body trying to follow instructions that were never written for her. User Manual asks what happens when a person can no longer follow the instructions they have been given.

User Manual for a Broken Machine is a darkly comic interdisciplinary performance using the language of instruction manuals, troubleshooting guides and malfunction reports as a performance score. Through text, movement, sound and fragments of Korean traditional music, the piece follows a performer who reads, repeats, mistranslates, repairs and gradually becomes the broken machine she is trying to fix.

Developed by KASSNA, the work explores failure, productivity, migration and the pressure placed on female bodies to keep functioning within broken systems. Moving between the domestic object and wider histories of Korean industrialisation, capitalism and diaspora, it asks what happens when a person, a machine, or a society can no longer obey its original design.

Absurd, physical and unsettlingly funny, User Manual for a Broken Machine turns repair into ritual, breakdown into performance, and failure into a possible beginning.
